About me

I’m Paul Bailey – a human-centred design consultant, design leader, and the person behind Design Thinking Dad.

By day, I work at CGI, one of the world’s largest IT and business consulting firms. Over the last 25 years, I’ve designed products and services for leading global organisations, government departments, and higher education institutions.

I bring together strategy, research, service design, digital transformation, and capability building to help teams deliver better outcomes.

As a design leader, I focus on creating the conditions where designers can do their best work – building supportive environments, nurturing communities of practice, and making sure design has a seat at the decision-making table.

I’m also a regular speaker at industry events, talking about human-centred design, design thinking, leadership, and the power of communities.

Design Thinking Dad

Outside of client work, I’m Design Thinking Dad, a role that started at home with my four kids.

I use design thinking mindsets and methods to tackle the everyday challenges of parenting, from bedtime battles to screen-time negotiations.

My goal is to help them develop creativity, resilience, and the skills they’ll need to thrive in the 4th Industrial Revolution, skills AI can’t replace.

Community and events

I co-run Service Designers Connect with Nottingham Trent University, a meet-up for people who want to share ideas, grow their skills, and strengthen the East Midlands design community.

In 2025, I founded the Nottingham Tech for Good Festival, a four-day celebration of ethical, inclusive, and sustainable technology.

It brings together technologists, designers, and changemakers to explore how tech can be a force for good.

And when I'm not doing all that...

You’ll probably find me watering my plants or trying to master the art of doing absolutely nothing. It’s harder than it sounds, but it’s where some of my best ideas start.
